Guided Fishing Trips make Good Gifts…If you’re struggling to think of something special for the fisherman in your life…how about a guided wade trip or float trip for trout, smallmouth bass or musky.  We’ll book a trip for you with one of the top guides in the southeast.  Drift boats accommodate 2 fisherman and the guide.   It’s a great way to spend the day on the river enjoying a unique and special gift.

Closed during Fly Show… FEB 1-4 we’ll be closed for our booth setup on Thurs. Feb. 1 and, of course, closed Fri. and Sat. since we will be manning the booth.  Normal hours resume on Tues. Feb. 6

Charlotte Fly Fishing Show…Feb. 2-4…flyfishingshow.comThree days at a New Location…the Merchandise Mart on Independence.   This is always a great show and I recommend it highly.  The free presentations and classes, as well as the semi-private ($75 approx) lessons, are excellent opportunities to learn and improve.   Daily admission is $14. We will again be selling show passes for $10.50…that saves $3.50.   If you want a show pass, please order ASAP and pay in advance.   Parking at the Mart is $6

More Good News…If while attending the show you register for one of the other classes conducted by members of the Carolina Fly Fishing Club for $25, you also get a free membership in the Federation of Fly Fishers and related benefits.

Atlanta Shallow Water Show…this one is put on by castlow.com and, although there is a lot of light tackle info, there is also a lot of fly fishing info.    Jan. 20 & 21… on this side of Atlanta so it’s easy to get to.   Check the web site and you’ll see lots of talent will be putting on presentations and demos.

New Multi-piece Spinning Rods…excellent 3-piece spinning rods by Temple Fork.   If you’re a backpacker or traveler you’ll love these.  It makes taking that spinning rod a lot easier.  And, even if not packing, it makes storage and lockup in trunks and center console boats, a piece of cake.  Prices range from $80-$110 for most.

Fly Tying Classes…Winter is fly tying time and we are discussing and planning classes to begin early in the new year…interested in Beginners  or an Intermediate Class, let us know….

Floss More Than Teeth…Dental floss may also be the toughest sewing thread you can easily buy.  It works great for sewing repairs in packs, straps and just about anything else.   It also works great for lashing and splinting broken canoe seats, paddle shafts and more repairs.  Combined with some epoxy …you may have a permanent repair.   But even without glue, floss is tough…it held a broken canoe paddle together for 3 days on the Allagash River in Maine.

Waterproof Gear Bags…from the grocery store…No, I’m not talking about plastic bags or leaf bags or ZipLoc bags.  If you want the toughest bags around, buy the ones for trash compacters.   They are a little more expensive….but they are a lot tougher than heavy duty leaf or garbage bags….and offer a lot more protection for gear, clothes and sleeping bags.

Seam Grip…Here’s another product with lots of muscle.  It’s most often sold as a permanent seam sealer for tent seams.   But, it works great for a variety of other repairs, especially where a hole has been punctured or warn thru in tarp, rubberized fabric, or rubber or vinyl reinforced areas, boots etc.

Two tips for better vision…dirty lenses on sunglasses or prescription glasses adversely impacting your outdoor adventures?   Two products have worked great.  One is the Glass Wipes by Armor All…sold in auto parts departments.  Cleans great with no streaking.   Stuff a few in a Ziploc bag and carry them in your pocket.   OR…the 3M microfiber Lens Cleaning Cloth does a really good job.  We sell these for $2.99.  These work great and folks buy several and place them strategically for regular use.

Have a Merry Christmas !
