Albright
Fly Rods… a relatively new company but some great fly rods. Started by Jim Murphy after his company
(Redington) was sold. We have two of
their inexpensive models:
Albright
3X Dry shirts… great fishing or casual shirt..big chest pockets; vented
back, button down collar etc… highly water
repellent and definitely “quick dry.” But, the amazing thing is…they are
cotton….high tech performance but cotton comfort…for only $39
NOAA
Weather Alert Radio… small and compact…great for staying in
touch with changing weather conditions and the Alert automatically warns you of
severe weather..
Stocking
Stuffers…we’ve also added some new items that make great “stocking
stuffers…bottle belts, “biner” lights, bear bells, solar radios, key ring
thermometers etc.
Be Prepared on Winter
Outings…The
next few months are great for a variety of outdoor activities…but be
prepared. This is especially true for
hikers and backpackers…and even travelers thru the higher elevations. Mountain weather and forecasts can change
suddenly. Severe weather can be very localized and may not have
been forecast at all. Check our website for two articles that will help
you be prepared for severe winter weather.
Winter Chill Busters
Terramar long underwear in several weights.
Terramar is one of the industry’s leading manufacturers of warm
underwear that excels in moisture
transport and wicking. No advertising hype…just good, dependable
performance at a good price…about $25-35…silk, polyester, and polyester
& wool blend…
Specialty
gloves… excellent neoprene glove
by Chota if you need waterproof; fingerless
fleece and wool gloves when you need dexterity for a variety of outdoor
tasks; and fleece mitts that flip open
to expose the finger tips by Chota; thin liner gloves; and traditional ski and fleece gloves.
Neck
gaiters pull down over your head and cover the entire neck area…and you can
pull them up to cover cheeks and nose…and maybe ears.
Trooper Hats lined with soft, warm rabbit fur…are really toasty
…. Remember, 50-75% of body heat is lost
from the head and neck….hmmmm.
Temperature Tip #1: Studies by the military into cold weather clothing
showed that loose fitting underwear was
a better insulator than tight…
Temp Tip #2: Thickness and layers provides more insulation or
“R” value…Consider a second layer of long underwear ( a size larger for
comfortable fit)…the result may be sufficient increase in warmth without the
extra bulk of a sweater or fleece pullover or pants…
