Versatile Day-and-a-half Packs…There are a bunch of packs on the market…but it’s hard to beat the versatile and comfortable Kelty Redwing… definitely a lot of bang for the buck…a light internal frame; a legitimate hip belt that will carry weight; zip open panel load and side and front pockets.   It makes a great carry on bag, as well as being a 1 or 2 day pack.  Too small for overnight backpacking (unless you are really into ultralight).  Mine has proved extremely useful on wilderness canoe trips in Maine and Canada.   All this for a little more than $100…and you can get it in camo….

New Tying Materials…The inventory is expanding and here’s some of the new items:  Natural furs like Gray Fox, Australian Possum, Black Bear, Badger, Beaver and imitation polar bear; Turkey Quills in stonefly brown, olive hare’s ear, cricket black, and stonefly and nymph cases;  Silver Pheasant; Wild Foam in several colors great for Harrison Steeves foam Beetles;  Swiss straw in 13 colors…great for nymph wing cases, scuds, sowbugs and crayfish; and plastic curly tails that are great additions to bass and saltwater flies.

Need a Keen Edge?  Does keeping a sharp knife get the best of you…or you’re just not sure how to do it.   We sharpen knives for a small fee….or we’ll show you how…then you have to practice with the right stuff.   We’ve used the excellent diamond “stones” from DMT for several years…for regular and serrated blades…others may work as well but the key is the industrial diamonds on the stones…..

NEW ROSS REELs…Ross is making substantial changes in their less expensive lines…expect to see the new Ross Flycast for $39!    There’s also a new Big Game Reel coming.  It’s named the Momentum and sports new features and a new carbon-fiber drag.  Not cheap…priced the same as the Canyons…which are phasing out.

Bamboo Rod…finally…Several of you admired the new Diamondback Bamboo Rod which sells for only $650…they are very nice and reports from other shops are extremely positive.  If you’ve been interested in bamboo…but most prices make you a tad nervous…check out this 7’9” 5 wt.  with two tips.  You will be impressed!

Fly Fish America Magazine…The new Sept. issue is just in and, as always, it’s FREE.  This one has new products for the coming year; updates on Polarized glasses, Muskie on the Fly info, and much more…

Royal Wulff Fly Lines… excellent lines and everyone that owns one or more is quite pleased.  “Tri Taper” refers to the extended taper.   The front taper on a standard weight forward line is about 6 or 7 feet long.  A Wulff line’s front taper ranges from 27 to 40 feet… providing an efficient transfer of power since a heavier taper is constantly turning over a lighter taper.  The Bass lines are great for bigger “bugs” and roll casting. We have these on special at 30% off for newsletter readers.   We also have some of last year’s fly lines without the “j3” coating …40% off

New Fly Fishing Club…Here’s a great opportunity…check it out at www.carolinaflyfishingclub.org    Just getting organized….
