Fishing Transitions:  Delayed Harvest trout fishing ends on June 7 when regulations allow catching and keeping.  Watch the stocking schedules on the state web site…reports are that stocking is being increased now to avoid possible problems from low water and drought.  Wild Trout  streams may fish good into the summer, with sufficient water.   Smallmouth fishing should really begin to pick up…especially for fly fishermen.   We are stocking more smallmouth and largemouth flies in anticipation of a good summer fishery.  Last summer was great for smallies….so we’re scheduling a….

Can you Canoe?...Nothing is more versatile than a quality  canoe for camping, fishing, floating, hunting, family outings etc. and just enjoying the water…and when done right, they paddle great whether solo, tandem…or with a child or two.   We carry perhaps the finest canoes made today…Bell Canoes.   Many folks are “sorta familiar” with the paddling technique for two people.  Paddling solo, however, the canoe responds best with an extra seat in the center.  Learn the C-stroke if using a standard paddle…or try a long (8’ or more) double-bladed paddle, just like a kayak.   If fishing, a canoe anchor system is invaluable, especially in moving water.   Or, just get out and wade prime areas…anchor the canoe or tie it around your waist, and let it drift downstream.  Hauling bulky gear and extra rods is no problem…but use watertight bags where needed and tie loose gear in…

Used equipment:  we have excellent buys in barely used gear:  an Orvis Battenkill 8/9 line and backing; an Orvis Mid-Arbor IV;  a 12 wt. Temple Fork rod and Ross Big Game reel, backing and line; wooden canoe seats with padding;
