Changes in store hours:  we’re reducing Sat.  hours… now closing at 3pm on Saturdays.

Intro to Fly Fishing Class next weeksee specifics  on page 2

“Pumpkin Fest” this Sat. …Nov. 3 is the annual Pumpkin Fest Celebration in downtown Statesville.  Consequently, the downtown streets are closed for vendors, food courts, performers etc.   We will be open for business (with some sales for Pumpkin Fest customers)  but parking will be about 1-2 blocks away.

Saltwater Fly Fishing Clinic…Saltwater fishing is peaking and will be good into mid-to-late Dec. (and even later for some species).  For folks interested in learning about fly fishing the salt, we’re holding our last 2+ hour clinic for the season, on Wed  Nov. 14th,  starting at 7pm.  Cost is $10.  Pre-registration is required.

Fly Tying Classes…begin in November, and run for the next 6-7 weeks.  This is the best way to learn tying…from veteran instructor Mickey Reavis.  Cost will be approximately $65-75.  Loaner equipment is available.  Classes are on Thurs. evenings from 7-9pm.  Pre-registration is important now in order to set a start date.  If interested…let us know immediately.

It’s time for Longjohns…Long underwear can feel pretty good on these chilly mornings.  Our shipment from Terramar is in…they are one of the industry leaders in silk, polyester and polyester/wool blends.   Their 2-layer Body Sensors EC2 Qui-Dri  for $25.99 is our best seller and based on customer feedback it’s better/warmer than the more expensive Under Armor folks have tried…and more comfortable too.

New Sleeping Bags… we’ve added Kelty’s Light Year in Goose Down with 15 degree rating;  Kelty Taku 0 degree synthetic; Kelty Light Year 25 degree in synthetic.   Remember, temp ratings are an approximation …and bag warmth varies from person to person and is based on diet, fluid intake,  type of clothing worn to sleep in and whether it’s clean…, the thickness of you sleeping pad and more…

Woodsman’s Pal in stock…You’ve probably seen these advertised in a variety of national magazines.   It’s a superb cutting tool for campers, hunters, or anyone doing yard work or land clearing.  It does tasks better than a machete or brush axe and it’s only 17 inches long and weighs 23 oz.  Made in Pennsylvania  since 1941.  Used by the military in WWII, Vietnam and Desert Storm.   It’s unique…a great tool and a great gift…$89.

New Fly Rods in Stock….Ross Reels has just introduced their new rods.   They look great and range from $99 to $199.  All are 4 piece rods and come with a hard case and sock.  And, we have brought in new models from Temple Fork:   the Jim Teeny signature rod for $200. The other is the Project Healing Waters model at $139.  This is an attractive deep blue rod and a portion of the sale benefits servicemen undergoing rehabilitation.

Great Gift… the new book Western NC Fly Guide  by J. Hall.  It’s full of great photos and stream information on many (not all) of the popular and some of the lesser known streams.  Definitely a resource that any fly fisherman will want…

Used 12 weight outfit…practically new:  TFO 12wt TiCrx, Ross Canyon Big Game reel; 200+ yards of backing;  Rio saltwater line…about $900 retail for only $650  (or present a reasonable offer).  a great big fish outfit, and for sinking lines… great for false albacore.

Water Levels Look Good…The recent rain, although it didn’t eliminate drought conditions, certainly brought the level of mountain stream and rivers up to a good level…last weekend’s water levels in Helton and the New River were excellent.  Consequently, we’re optimistic that Delayed Harvest streams will get a good stocking of fish on Nov. 1 & 2.   Late breaking update:  Helton was being stocked on Nov. 1 and the hatchery truck crew said they were putting in a “full load.”  The water level had dropped some since the weekend but it was still good late Thursday pm.
