New Sleeping Bags…Our sleeping bag selection has been broadened for  winter.  Our best seller is the North Face Aleutian, 20 degree rated, for only $79.  In addition to the North Face Cat’s Meow and the excellent Western Mountaineering down bags, we’ve added Kelty’s Light Year in Down with 15 degree rating;  Kelty Taku 0 degree synthetic; Kelty Light Year 25 degree in synthetic.   Remember, temp ratings are an approximation …

Prep now for Cold Weather in the Mountains…The latest weather feels great and it’s one of the best times to be outside.  However, it’s important to be prepared.  With nighttime temps in the 40’s, the highest elevations in the mountains are dipping into the 20 and 30’s.  Don’t get caught unprepared by sudden temperature drops…pack and plan accordingly.  See our website for solid, practical first-hand advice on backpacking in cold.

Winter Clothing is here… The first North Face and Columbia shipments are here and both lines have great looking products for  winter.  We have several options in “softshell” jackets and fleece…as well as waterproof/breathable jackets and parkas.  Gloves and hats are also going up.  We have warm days, but  nights are cool… that first frost will be here any day.

Woodsman’s Pal in stock…You’ve probably seen these advertised in a variety of national magazines.   It’s a superb cutting tool for campers, hunters, or anyone doing yard work or land clearing.  It does tasks better than a machete or brush axe and it’s only 17 inches long and weighs 23 oz.  Made in Pennsylvania  since 1941.  Used by the military in WWII, Vietnam and Desert Storm.   It’s unique…a great tool and a great gift…$89.

New, lighter sleeping pads…There are several brands of excellent pads on the market… lighter and more compact than you may think.   Just in are some of the Pacific Outdoors Ether pads…a Backpacker Editor’s Choice award winner.  Weight is only 22oz!   Thickness is 2.5 inches…and it’s insulated… at less than 1.5 pounds and smaller than a football…only $69.
