Special Event….Pro Bicycle Races in Downtown Statesville, Fri. Aug 3rd
This is an annual event. If you’ve not seen one, you’ll be impressed at the speed and skill of these riders. Tommorrow, Street closure begins at 5pm…and the races start about 6pm. City parking lots are close by and the action starts and stops right in front of the store. We’ll be open late. Bring a folding chair, or use one of ours. The downtown restaurants will be having specials…it’s a great way to spend a summer evening.
“One Night Stand” for Fly Tying!... the 3rd Thurs. in Aug. at 7pm, veteran instructor Mickey Reavis continues his “fly of the month” program One evening for $10. Flies for Aug. are streamers: Double Bunnys and Keith Fulsher’s Thunder Creek patterns. Here’s a chance to learn at least two techniques and several patterns in one evening. We need a head count so register now… Materials used in the class are provided…just bring your tools.
New Products arriving: Just in are Buffs, S-Biners, Vesa-Links and more. Recent additions include Aussie “Drover” hats for sun protection; folding plates and bowls; sporks…3 utensils in one; collapsible “Guyot” bowls; tech t-shirts…wicking and quick dry by North Face and others; 3-piece stowable/packable spinning rods by TFO; Spinning Rod combos by Shimano; guide tested and proven lures and flies for smallmouth bass;
Buffs are Here…what exactly is a Buff?... A Buff is multifunctional headwear,,,and there’s a bunch of different ways to wear it…if you are bold and adventuresome. For most, however, it’s best worn as a neck and face protector to shield the skin from excessive exposure to the sun and wind. These have become very popular with fishermen…especially those on the water in boats hour after hour, and in tropical climates. Protect yourself from the sun…get a Buff!.
Used cartop Racks: Barrecrafters…fits many vehicles with factory racks…$85…and hauls two canoes etc. Yakima rack and kayak stackers for VW/small sedans….$150.

Web Site Updates…We’ve just made a few changes in our web site you may be interested in. Some new pictures have been added to the slide show, and more additions will be coming in the next couple of weeks. We’re also adding a “Favorite Links” section and that may be done by the time you read this. Several readers have commented on the camping and backpacking “articles.” We have some additional articles that will be added soon, pertaining to other outdoor areas.
Keep a Keen Edge….Got a knife (or knives) that need to be sharpened…we’ll do it. We routinely sharpen pocket knives, sheath knives, kitchen knives (even most serrated blades)… and we’ve even had a bayonet and a sword brought in. Price is reasonable and we’ll try to do it while you wait, but that’s not always feasible. Most of the time we hand sharpen using a variety of DMT diamond stones. If a blade is in bad shape or needs the bevel restored, we use a series of diamond stones and wheels in an electric sharpener that does not overheat the blade.
Hard to Find Items…Often folks are surprised to find we stock some hard to find items. For example: Strike Anywhere Matches…9-hour candles…Flint and Steel for fire starting…Wetterlings axes made in Sweden…waterproof cell phone and camera cases…money belts for travelers…insect repellent to use in India…moleskin…travel hammocks, campers hammocks and “banana” hammocks…pocket flasks …and unbreakable wine glasses and 16 gauge shotgun shells…and more.
