Fly of the MonthTHIS week…June 21 at 7pm,  veteran instructor Mickey Reavis will kick off a “Fly of the Month” program… One evening for $10.  This month is “Czech Nymphs: Tying, Rigging and Fishing.”  If you’re not up to speed on Czech Nymphing, this will really be educational.  We need a head count so register now.  Bring Clear Mono thread

Outfitting Wilderness Travelers…Every summer, many of our customers are folks going to Alaska, S. America, Bhoutan, etc. and trips closer to home like Scouts going to Philmont, NM,   or the Boundary Waters High Adventure Canoe Base in Minnesota.   If you are planning a summer adventure, don’t hesitate to ask questions about gear and travel accessories.  It may make you planning a little easier and reduce or eliminate some annoying consequences.

New Daypacks/Bookbags…just in are updated daypacks by North Face….new features and Laptop Sleeve for computer protection.  Check out the Recon, Heckler and Big Shot.

Summer Sleeping Bags…For the next few months that 20 degree sleeping bag may be a tad “hot.”  Instead, consider the North Face Equinox…35 degree rating and only 2lbs; or the Kelty Cosmic…35 degree rating and 2lb 10 oz.  OR, think about a fleece liner bag instead of a traditional insulated bag…inexpensive, light, compact and can be useful to extend the warmth of your regular bag on cold winter trips.

“Mother Ship” Kayak Fishing… in Core/Pamlico Sounds  by Capt. Gary Dubiel of Spec Fever Guide Service and Paddle Pamlico for 1-3 anglers.  Long range transport on Gary’s 23’ center console to excellent shallow water kayak fishing in some of the most remote waters in the East. ..from Beaufort or Oriental, NC… thru September.   Gary is an excellent guide, fly caster, and fly tier.  Use your kayak or rent… captgary@specfever.com

Tick Season is Here… 2 products  make life safer.  One is Permanone Spray that you apply to your clothing…effective and lasts for up to 2 weeks…wards off other bugs as well.  You can buy clothes that are pretreated…but that treatment wears off.  With Permanone Spray, you can treat the clothes you already own…and retreat…and retreat etc. AND  the Tick Remover…the safest way to remove a tick that is embedded.

It’s Cookout Time… just what you need … a 2-prong stainless grilling “tool” for hot dogs and marshmallows….that “screws” on to almost any stick.  Tired of losing your dog to the fire…or only burning on one side.  The Grill Things solve that and allow you to grill like a seasoned outdoor professional…2 per box for $5.50.    Don’t want to cut a stick???...get a pack of 20” toaster forks (similar benefits…but you may want to wear a glove…)

Tilleys Hats…world famous…Probably no other hat is known around the world like the Tilleys…great hats for sun and rain protection…and they come with an insurance policy! And are guaranteed!... excellent and very popular year round but especially for summer sun protection….Our best seller is the T-3 but we have a few other styles…

Bass Bust Boogle Bugs…popping bug season is here…the best you can buy are Boogle Bugs.  High quality equals durability…fish, after fish.   We have them in stock in four top colors.  Due to success…I’m already reordering for smallmouth fishing.

Field Tested Bass FliesWe’ve added some excellent Bass Flies to our expanded inventory….  These include custom tied Deer Hair Bugs, Foam Sliders,  and “Magnum” Buggers and crayfish patterns…and a variety of Clouser Minnow patterns…thinking about Bass, especially Smallmouth Bass, all are proven patterns that work in local waters.

Riverside Canoe and Tube Rental and fisherman shuttle...  Call at 336 982-9439 or check their web site riversidecanoeing.com… also  cabins, camping and bike rentals and great  service.  Recently a customer was paddling his own boat downstream and realized he had forgotten the keys to his vehicle at the takeout.  Since he was approaching Riverside and knew I had bragged about them, he stopped to “hire a ride” back to his weekend retreat 2-3 miles back upriver.  Instead of taking his money, they just loaned him a vehicle for the run back to get the forgotten keys.   That type of trust and service is hard to find…

Used cartop Racks:   Barrecrafters…fits  many vehicles with factory racks…$85…and hauls two canoes etc.  . Yakima rack and kayak stackers for VW/small sedans….$150
